According to Henderson (2006), the rate and magnitude of soil erosion can be controlled through controlling the various factors that cause soil erosion. They include;
a.) Planting Vegetation
Planting of trees, plant and crops of grass will help to protect the soil from rain drops impact and splashes that tend to promote the movement of surface runoff and allow excess surface water infiltrate. It helps in checking soil erosion, Carla (2008).
b) Construction of Good Drainage/Culverts
According to Umoru (2004) good drainage and culverts construction should be made across every road/street and should link other for easy flow of water into rivers. Public enlightenment should be created for the populace to avoid dumping of refuse along water channels.
c) Dredging Of Rivers/Erection of Barriers
The dredging of rivers is important in combating the menace of erosion. There should be shore walls at the end of the bridges. Blocks/barriers can be built at interval in gullies to reduce the speed of running water.
d.) Discouraging Indiscriminate Dumping of Refuse along Drainage Channels
Lal (2009) states that indiscriminate dumping of refuse along drainage system can block the drainage and contribute to erosion menace, thus the converse means that erosion can be controlled by discouraging the population from dumping refuse along drainage channels.
e) Use of Urban Master Plan
Erosion can be controlled or prevented through the use of a proper implementation of urban master plan and implementation of environmental laws, Njoku and Bunmi (2004)
